With wide sandy Mediterranean beaches, 300 sunny days a year, white- domed architecture, and modern comforts, Tunisia is a favourite budget-friendly vacation spot.
Relax on the beach or enjoy local wine or coffee in a seafront café. Explore Tunisia’s historic and cultural sights: magnificent mosques, museums, Roman ruins, Christian mosaics, and medieval fortresses. The older town sections (medinas) are crammed with Turkish baths, kasbahs, mosques, and bazaars. Life continues here as it has for centuries.
We begin with 4 nights in Hammamet, a town on the coast with sandy beaches and surrounding fragrant groves of citrus trees. The town is protected by the ancient wall of the Medina—a maze of narrow streets loaded with shops, stalls, and a great place to spend the day hunting for bargains. There is lovely domed architecture, a local market and a 15th-century fort which rises dramatically from the sea.
After Hammamet we depart on a 4-night coach tour to the south where we see many of the amazing sights for which Tunisia is known—the Holy City of Kairouan, desert oasis, Berber villages, Roman ruins and desert resorts. Our coach tour ends in the resort town of Sousse for a 4-night stay. Here we can enjoy the resort atmosphere, stroll through the historic medina, visit the excellent museums and view the Great Mosque and world-class marina. We finish off with 2 nights in the beautiful seaside town of Gammarth, near the capital—Tunis.
