Moderate pace with leisurely intermittent walks up to 2 hours on a variety of terrain, including cobblestones and moderate hills. Must be able to climb at least two flights of stairs, negotiate steps without railings and tolerate periods of standing during guided tours. Some days may include 3–5 km of walking over the course of the day.

Tour Highlights

  • Albufeira: A tour of the resort town of Albufeira. The Moorish flavour of the town is evident in the architecture and in the labyrinth of narrow streets that lead down the hillside to the central square. A tunnel at the end of the pedestrian-only shopping area brings you to the town’s main beach.
  • Silves: We visit the medieval city of Silves where we see the 12th century Cathedral and visit the Moorish Castle. We then enjoy a scenic drive in the Monchique Mountains and stop in Foia for magnificent views from the highest point in the Algarve.
  • Alte: An excursion to the elegant village of Alte, perhaps the most picturesque of the Algarve, to see the 16th century church and natural hot springs, followed by the authentic village of Salir surrounded by olive and almond trees.
  • Sagres: We explore the historic town of Lagos and the picturesque fishing village of Sagres. Lagos retains many architectural features of its ancient past and several interesting statues of famous figures, while Sagres and Cape St. Vincent offer some the Algarve’s most dramatic scenery of serene beaches and sea-carved cliffs.
  • Faro: A tour of Faro, the provincial capital of the Algarve and thriving university town. We will wander the walled old town with it maze of cobblestone streets, then proceed to the fishing village of Olhao to discover the old port and waterfront.
  • Evora: After our stay in the Algarve we will depart for Evora—one of Portugal’s most beautifully preserved medieval towns, for a walking tour and lunch, then continue to Lisbon. -Lisbon: A city tour of Lisbon. Portugal’s capital is a legendary city with over 2,000 years of history. On our city tour we’ll stroll through the winding streets and alleys of the old quarter of Alfama, we’ll see Jeronimos Monastery, see the Tower of Belem and monument to the Discoveries, and we’ll taste the famous “Pasteis de Belem”.

You may cancel your tour up to 60 days prior to departure (90 days prior for tours requiring a visa, cruises or rail journeys) for any reason, and receive a full refund of your deposit / payment (less the $75 administration fee).
